ADAPTATIONS FOR

COVID-19

Yes, we can still help! This year we are finding our creative problem-solving skills are being put to the test. We need to find new ways of bringing our community together and providing support to those who need it the most. That said, keeping each other safe and flattening the curve are paramount to our survival. With that, we have come up with some new ways for our business community to give back with their time, talents, and/or treasures during this time of need. While we have offered up some new suggestions, we know how creative you all are, and we look forward to being impressed by your own creative ideas.

OUR

MISSION

When asked why, we emphatically say why not? The world can always use a little more good and we want to do our part. 5 Days for Good is an initiative designed to provide a spark, a method, and a community hub for contributing to a net positive in the world. Participants often do many good things throughout the year and in most everything they do but 5DFG is an opportunity to focus that energy into a substantial effort across a 5 day campaign of giving. #5DaysForGood on social to plug in to all of the good being done.

HOW TO

PARTICIPATE

5 Days for Good is generally driven through a process of nomination wherein businesses who participate will nominate other businesses that they know will happily join the initiative. These organizations will schedule 5 benevolent acts over the course of a 5 day week (presumably Monday through to Friday). On your first day of participation you will send out your nomination. This way the next organization to pick up the baton will have a week head’s up to plan their week of activities. There are a number of ways that you can contribute to theses community efforts. Generally we can categorize giving in 3 ways:

TIME

Give your time to someone in need. This could come in the form of booking phone or video calls with seniors, sharing helpful information with those who need it,  supporting other local businesses by sharing their good deeds, or volunteering for phone support to local community organizations. The only limitation is the extent of your own imagination.

TALENT

Are you a chef, tailor, designer, teacher, or artist? What talents do you have that you could donate to our community right now? You could schedule daily video lessons through Facebook or sew masks for our frontline healthcare workers. Find new ways to offer your talents to the people in our community who need it the most right now.

TREASURE

It doesn’t take much to be a philanthropist. Whether you have $5 or $50 to give, every bit makes a positive impact. Our hospitals and other essential services are in desperate need right now. If 10 people were to donate $50, all of a sudden we have a significant $500 contribution that can support real change. Every little bit helps.

OUR 2020

VISION

COVID-19 FOCUS

This year we are acutely sensitive to the challenges that we are all facing right now. Even more so are the serious risks that are being taken by our frontline healthcare workers. In the spirit of giving, and in the interest of respecting the need for safe distancing and isolation, we are encouraging all of our participating organizations to be creative with their methods of support, and to consider focusing at least a portion of their efforts toward supporting the needs of local healthcare workers.

This could be by way of sewing hair caps, dropping off bottled water or grab-and-go snacks, or even a modest donation of as little as $25 to the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation.

Our community needs our help now more than ever and we look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with this year!
